Architectural Design & Planning

At Wilson Home Energy & Design, we provide professional architectural design services for homeowners looking to improve, extend, or transform their homes. Our work covers a wide range of residential projects, including:

  • Porch extensions

  • Single and Double storey extensions

  • Garage Conversions

  • Loft Conversions

  • Wrap Around Extensions

  • Conservatories

  • Full home extensions and renovations

From the initial concept through to final drawings, we create clear, practical architectural plans tailored to your home, your needs, and your budget.

To make the process as stress-free as possible, we can also manage the planning application on your behalf. This includes preparing and submitting all required drawings and documentation and liaising with the relevant local authority throughout the planning process. Our aim is to take as much pressure off you as possible, allowing you to focus on the exciting part — transforming your house into your dream home!

If you prefer, you can choose to receive the architectural plans only and submit the planning application yourself. Whether you want full support or just the drawings, we are flexible and happy to work in the best way that suits you.

No matter the level of involvement you choose, we're here to guide you through the process and ensure your project moves forward smoothly, clearly, and with minimal stress.

Design & Build

Enhance your space with our expert design and build services. From concept to completion, we bring your vision to life with quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

EPC's and Retrofit Assessments

Upgrade your home's energy efficiency with our innovative solutions. We specialize in energy audits, insulation upgrades, and sustainable building practices to reduce your carbon footprint.

We provide both Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Retrofit Assessments to help homeowners, landlords, and property professionals understand and improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

An EPC assesses the current energy performance of a property, rating it from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). It is a legal requirement when selling or renting a property and is valid for 10 years. The assessment considers elements such as insulation, heating systems, windows, and lighting, and provides clear recommendations to improve energy efficiency, reduce running costs, and lower carbon emissions.

A Retrofit Assessment offers a more in-depth evaluation for those looking to significantly improve the performance, comfort, and sustainability of their home. It involves a detailed survey of the property, reviewing the building fabric, ventilation, and heating systems to identify suitable energy efficiency improvements. These may include insulation upgrades, ventilation improvements, and low-carbon heating options, particularly for older or traditionally built homes.

Background Ventilation Testing

Background ventilation testing checks whether a property has adequate ventilation to maintain good indoor air quality. It focuses on systems such as trickle vents, air bricks, and other permanent ventilation openings.

For new build homes, testing helps demonstrate compliance with Building Regulations and ensures sufficient fresh air is provided without relying solely on opening windows.

For existing and retrofit projects, background ventilation testing confirms that ventilation levels remain appropriate after energy efficiency improvements, helping prevent issues such as condensation, damp, and poor air quality.

Good background ventilation supports a healthier indoor environment while balancing comfort, energy efficiency, and moisture control.

Air Permeability Testing

Ensure your property's air quality with our air permeability testing and background ventilation services. Whether it's a new build or existing property, we provide comprehensive testing and solutions for optimal indoor air quality.

Air permeability testing checks how airtight a building is by measuring how much air escapes through gaps and joints in the structure.

For new build homes, this test is required to meet Building Regulations and helps ensure the property is energy efficient and comfortable to live in.

For existing and retrofit projects, it highlights areas of unwanted draughts and air leakage, helping target improvements such as insulation and draught-proofing.

Overall, air permeability testing helps reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, and create a warmer, more comfortable home.
